An examiner takes the IELTS speaking test, and you have to answer various types of questions face-to-face. IELTS Speaking Sections

The IELTS speaking test is taken in sections, or you may call them parts. They are three in total, and all of them evaluate your ability to communicate in English and figure out whether you can survive in an English-speaking country or not.

Just like other IELTS sections, its speaking test also takes place at a testing center. Don’t worry about the examiner! First Part

The first part of the speaking test is also known as the Interview with the examiner, and it is completely about you, your lifestyle, country, work, hobbies, and other everyday things. The time duration of the first part is 4–5 minutes.

Second Part

It is sometimes known as ‘the talk’ or ‘long turn’ part of the speaking test. In this section, you will have a face-to-face talk with the examiner for almost 3–4 minutes. Know that all parts of the IELTS speaking test take place at the same place or room and with the same examiner.

In the second part or section of the IELTS, the examiner will give you a topic card, pen and paper, and a minute to prepare the speaking topic. You will have only 1 minute to prepare notes, and once the time is over, the examiner will let you know. Make sure to write enough points to talk freely for 1–2 minutes. The topic varies from person to person; however, they are mostly about you and your experiences.

Third Part

If you are good at two-way discussion, this part of the speaking test allows you to speak up. The examiner will ask questions based on the topic you covered in the second part of the speaking test. You have to express your ideas, give opinions, and explain everything with examples to make sense.

The questions and discussion will last for 4 to 5 minutes. So, be mentally prepared for explanations while making points in part two of the speaking test.

IELTS Speaking Topics: Part 3 Sample Questions

Here starts the discussion phase of the IELTS speaking test. The examiner will ask you to explain a situation or moment in detail, and you must prove your point with valid reasons, comparisons, and real-life examples. To keep your two-way discussion with the IELTS examiner lasting for 4 to 5 minutes, you must add phases like due to, in other words, on the other hand, for instance, such as, however, for all, since, to sum it up, that’s how it was, etc.

You might get the chance to discuss the same topic with the examiner based on the IELTS speaking part 2.
